What you need for a Six-Day Walk
A Six-Day Walk needs more than route maps and refreshments. You will need supplies for six separate walking days, with materials sorted so volunteers can find them quickly at each start, finish and rest stop. Plan drinking water, coffee supplies, route markers, identification materials and basic safety equipment before shopping. This list helps you prepare the physical supplies without overlooking items that are often ordered or collected too late.

Tips
- Plan one clearly labelled supply crate for each walking day, plus a separate box for shared equipment such as walkie-talkies, power banks, measuring wheels and flashlights. This prevents day-one materials from being used up before the later routes.
- Allow at least two reusable cups per participant if washing facilities are limited, and provide extra water jugs for every rest stop. Count registered walkers and volunteers separately before buying or collecting tableware.
- Prepare route-marking materials in advance: use arrows, signs, ribbons and barrier tape in separate bundles for each route. Pack spare markers for every day because signs can be moved, damaged or missed during the route check.
- Keep registration supplies together at the start area, including bib numbers, stamp cards, stamps, phones and power banks. Prepare enough bib numbers and cards for every registered participant, plus a small reserve for replacements.
- Pack safety and weather supplies where volunteers can reach them quickly. Reflective vests, umbrellas, walking sticks and flashlights are easy to forget when equipment is sorted by route rather than by use.
Frequently asked questions
- What should I buy for a Six-Day Walk?
- Prepare drinking and coffee supplies, reusable cups and tableware, registration materials, route arrows and signs, barrier tape, first-aid supplies and volunteer equipment. Divide route markers and consumables into six daily sets before the event.
- How many cups do I need for a Six-Day Walk?
- Count at least two reusable cups per participant when there is no reliable washing point during the day, and add cups for volunteers. If cups are washed and reused at rest stops, plan enough for the largest group using a stop at one time, plus a reserve of 10β15%.
- When should I prepare the Six-Day Walk shopping list?
- Finish the stock check and order or collect non-perishable supplies at least 2β3 weeks before the first walking day. Check drinks, groceries, medical supplies and route-marking materials again 2β3 days before the event.
- What equipment is needed at Six-Day Walk rest stops?
- Each rest stop needs access to drinking water, cups, waste bins and the supplies required by your route plan. If volunteers serve coffee, add a kettle or coffee machine, coffee cups, water jugs and a power solution; prepare these sets at least one day before use.
