What you need for a screen tournament
Use this shopping list to prepare the venue, scoring setup, registration desk and catering for a screen tournament. The equipment list covers screen lanes, weapons, protective gear and the spare cables and body cords that prevent avoidable delays. For the venue, allow tables and chairs for registration and catering, plus enough power strips and extension cords for every scoring machine. Buy or bring consumables early, especially bib numbers, reusable cups, plates and cutlery.

Tips
- Plan one working scoring setup per screen lane, then add at least one spare body cord and spare cable for each active lane. Test every connection before participants arrive.
- Count protective equipment against your largest group, not the total number of registered players. Have enough face masks, screen vests and fencing gloves for one complete group at a time, with reserve weapons ready.
- Bring a registration table, laptop, printer and bib numbers together in one clearly marked area. Pack paper, printer supplies and the final participant list at least one day before the tournament.
- Map the power load before setting up. Use extension cords and power strips so scoring machines, the laptop and other equipment can be connected without daisy-chaining cables across walkways.
- For catering, match reusable cups, plates and cutlery to the maximum number of people served in one break. Set out waste bins before opening the food area and test the coffee maker before the first match.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for a screen tournament?
- You need screen lanes, track reels, electric swords, foils and sabers, face masks, screen vests, fencing gloves and scoring machines. Add reserve weapons, spare body cords and spare cables so one equipment fault does not stop a match.
- How many scoring machines do I need for a screen tournament?
- Plan for one scoring machine per active screen lane. If you run four lanes at once, bring four working machines and test them before the venue opens; a spare machine is useful if one fails.
- What should I bring to the registration desk?
- Set up a registration desk with a laptop, printer, bib numbers, tables and chairs. Prepare the participant list and printed materials at least 24 hours before registration starts, and keep pens and spare paper at the desk.
- How much catering equipment is needed for a screen tournament?
- Provide one reusable cup, plate and cutlery set per person being served, plus a small buffer of about 10 percent. Put out waste bins before catering opens and check the coffee maker and power supply at least 30 minutes beforehand.
