What you need for a nature quiz

A nature quiz needs more than questions and answer sheets. Plan supplies for each team, a clear registration point, comfortable quiz tables and a drinks and buffet station. Printed quiz booklets, response forms and score sheets should be ready before guests arrive, while binoculars, magnifying glasses and nature books support observation rounds. Use this shopping list to check what must be bought, borrowed or packed, including weather protection for an outdoor setup.

Tips

  • Prepare one quiz booklet, response form and set of writing supplies for each team, then add at least 10% extra in case a sheet is lost or a pen stops working.
  • Set aside one clipboard and one calculator per team if teams will work outdoors or move between rounds. Pack pencils as well as pens for field notes and answer changes.
  • For a four-hour quiz, plan two to three drinks per person for the first hour and one to two per person for each following hour. Chill drinks before guests arrive and keep hot water, coffee machines or kettles ready.
  • Match tableware to the food you are serving: provide one plate, cutlery set and reusable glass per guest, plus serving spoons and trays for the buffet. Add soup bowls only if soup is on the menu.
  • If any round takes place outside, check the forecast 24 hours beforehand and arrange party tents, tables and chairs that can handle the conditions. Keep printed materials in folders or boxes until the round starts.

Frequently asked questions

How many quiz booklets and answer forms do I need?
Prepare one quiz booklet and one answer form per team for every round. Add at least 10% spare copies, so a quiz with 10 teams needs 11 of each item.
How many pens should I buy for a nature quiz?
Give each team at least two pens and keep another 10% as backup. For 10 teams, pack 22 pens, or use pencils as well for outdoor observation rounds.
How much food and drink do I need for a nature quiz?
For drinks, plan two to three per person during the first hour and one to two per person for each later hour. For snacks, provide at least two portions per guest, with extra options if dietary requirements were registered.
When should I check the nature quiz shopping list?
Do a first stock check at least 7 days before the quiz, then shop 1 to 2 days beforehand. Chill drinks and prepare printed materials on the day before, leaving only setup and fresh snacks for the event day.
