Mountain bike training checklist

Use this checklist to organise a mountain bike training session from the first registration to the final sign-in. It covers the details that are easy to leave too late: consent forms, emergency contacts, route marking, bike checks and group divisions. On the day, you will also need a clear start area, bicycle parking, a registration table and a first aid and repair point. The plan includes 44 tasks and 38 items so preparation is easy to follow in order.

Tips

  • Reserve the training venue and set the route before sending participant information. This gives you a confirmed meeting point, route length and start time to share with every rider.
  • Set a deadline for registrations, dietary requirements, consent forms and emergency contacts. Check the final participant list at least one day before training so you can divide groups and prepare enough food and drinks.
  • Check bicycles, helmets and protective equipment before riders start. Charge lights and batteries, and place pumps, multi-tools, tire levers, spare inner tubes and repair kits at the repair point rather than leaving them in storage.
  • Mark the route on the day with route arrows and barrier tape, then walk or ride the opening section before participants arrive. Keep reflective vests and LED lamps ready if visibility is poor or the session runs late.
  • Set up the registration table, bicycle racks, first aid point and refreshments before the arrival window. Chill drinks and fill thermos flasks early, because registration becomes difficult when organisers are still preparing coffee or snacks.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I organise mountain bike training?
Reserve the venue and set the route as soon as the date is known. Send invitations with a registration deadline at least 7 days before training, then collect consent forms and emergency contacts before the final participant list is printed.
What should I check before a mountain bike training session?
Check every bicycle, helmet and protective item, then test pumps, repair kits, lights and batteries. Check the weather forecast the day before and again on the morning of the session, allowing at least 30 minutes for route and equipment checks.
How do I prepare the route for mountain bike training?
Set and inspect the route before participants arrive, using route arrows and barrier tape where direction or hazards may be unclear. Put a first aid and repair point in place before registration starts, with spare inner tubes and basic tools ready.
When should participants arrive for mountain bike training?
Set an arrival window that gives you at least 30 minutes before the planned start. Use that time to register attendance, check consent information, direct riders to bicycle parking and divide participants into training groups.
