Men's Competition Shopping List

A men’s competition needs more than the sports equipment used on the course. You also need chilled drinks, coffee supplies, catering items, power accessories and clearly labelled paperwork for competitors, judges and volunteers. Check quantities against your final participant list, then add a small reserve for officials and late arrivals. Buy chilled products shortly before the event and keep them cold until serving. Use the plan’s equipment list to check what must be bought, hired or brought from storage.

Tips

  • Plan drinks for the full competition day, not only the start. As a working estimate, allow 2–3 drinks per person for the first hour and keep extra water available for competitors, judges and volunteers.
  • Buy coffee, tea, milk, sugar and disposable serving supplies for the number of people staying on site. Coffee machines and kettles are easy to remember; cups, stirrers and waste bags are often missed.
  • Check every course item before shopping for replacements: cones, obstacle parts, course tape, measuring tapes, stopwatches and scoreboards must be complete and usable before setup starts.
  • Prepare a separate officials’ supply box with scorecards, clipboards and pens. Pack at least two pens per clipboard and keep spare copies of start documents and scorecards dry in a folder.
  • Arrange horse supplies early if horses are involved. Water troughs and hay nets are not last-minute purchases, and the site should have enough capacity for every animal expected during the competition.

Frequently asked questions

What should I buy for a men's competition?
Plan for four groups of supplies: food and drinks, event equipment, course-marking materials and paperwork supplies. Check the list for items such as coolers, extension cords, race cones, bib numbers, scorecards, clipboards and pens, then compare it with your existing stock at least 7 days before the event.
How much food and drink do I need for a men's competition?
Base catering on the confirmed participant, official and volunteer count, then add a reserve of about 10%. For drinks, allow 2–3 per person during the first hour and provide extra water throughout the competition, especially if competitors are active outdoors.
When should I buy supplies for the competition?
Buy durable equipment, stationery and course materials at least 7 days in advance so missing items can still be replaced. Purchase chilled products as close to the event as practical, store them cold and complete the main shopping after the final registration count.
What do people forget to bring to a men's competition?
Commonly missed items include power strips, extension cords, spare pens, clipboards, scorecards, coolers and flashlights. Check these items 1–2 days before setup, and keep paperwork and electronics in separate waterproof containers.
