What to Buy for a Hip-Hop Workshop

A hip-hop workshop needs more than music and an open floor. Plan for sound, movement, registration, hydration and a short break so participants can focus on the session. This shopping list covers the practical items to buy or bring, from reusable cups and coolers to dance mats, cables and serving equipment. Check what the venue already provides before shopping, especially speakers, tables, chairs and kitchen equipment.

Tips

  • Plan at least one reusable cup per participant, plus 10% extra for replacements. Keep water chilled in coolers and set out a pitcher so people can refill without interrupting the workshop.
  • Test the full audio setup at least one day beforehand. Bring the Bluetooth receiver, mixer, microphone, microphone stand, extension cords, power strips and charging cables together rather than discovering a missing connection at setup time.
  • Use one dance mat or clear floor position per participant for warm-ups and floor work, with a few extra mats available. Foam rollers, towels and skipping ropes are easy to overlook but useful for warm-up and cooldown sections.
  • Prepare snacks that can be served quickly during the break. Serving bowls, tongs, reusable plates and cutlery should be ready before participants arrive; check dietary requirements against the final registration list.
  • Set aside a separate registration table and bring enough chairs for waiting participants or staff. Put markΒing discs near the dance floor, and keep cables along the room edge so they do not cross movement areas.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to bring to a hip-hop workshop?
Bring sound equipment, power and charging cables, movement equipment, water supplies, snacks and registration materials. For a group session, plan one cup and one floor position per participant, with roughly 10% extra where possible.
How many cups and plates do I need for a hip-hop workshop?
Use one reusable cup and one reusable plate per participant, then add 10% extra. For 20 participants, that means at least 22 cups and 22 plates, plus matching cutlery if snacks require it.
How much water should I buy for a dance workshop?
Allow about 1 litre of water per participant for a workshop of up to three hours, and add 10% extra for warm rooms or intensive movement. Chill it before participants arrive and keep additional water available during the break.
When should I test the music and equipment?
Test the playlist, speakers, mixer, microphone and Bluetooth connection at least one day before the workshop. Run a second sound check 30 to 60 minutes before doors open, with all cables and power strips connected as they will be during the session.
