What you need for a general knowledge quiz
A general knowledge quiz needs more than questions and a projector. This shopping list covers the practical items that keep teams supplied, answers easy to collect and scores simple to track. Plan quantities around your number of teams and guests, then add a small reserve for damaged forms, spilled drinks and late arrivals. Check the venueβs tables, chairs, power access and kitchen equipment before buying or bringing anything.

Tips
- Provide one answer form, score sheet and team card per team for each round, plus at least 10% extra. A team of six playing eight rounds therefore needs 9 answer forms and spare scoring paperwork.
- Plan two to three drinks per person for the first hour, then one to two per person for each additional hour. Bring reusable glasses, bottle openers and at least two waste bins so used items do not pile up on quiz tables.
- Allow one plate, cup and cutlery set per guest, plus 10% spare. Serving bowls, platters and utensils make it easier to keep snacks away from laptops, answer sheets and electrical equipment.
- For the presentation setup, pack the laptop, projector, screen, speakers, microphone, extension cords and power strips together. Test every cable at least 60 minutes before guests arrive and bring charging cables for the laptop and microphone.
- Keep drinks cold in coolers and prepare ice in advance: allow roughly 500 grams of ice per 10 guests. Set out the coffee maker, kettle and thermos flasks before the quiz starts so hot drinks do not interrupt a round.
Frequently asked questions
- What do I need to buy for a general knowledge quiz?
- Plan for drinks, snacks, plates, cups, cutlery, serving bowls, answer forms and score sheets. You will also need a laptop, projector, screen, speakers, microphone, extension cords and power strips unless the venue supplies them.
- How many answer sheets do I need for a quiz?
- Prepare one answer form for each team in every round, then add at least 10% spare. For 8 teams playing 6 rounds, print 48 forms and keep 5 extra available.
- How many drinks should I buy for a quiz night?
- Budget for two to three drinks per person during the first hour and one to two for every hour after that. For 30 guests over three hours, that means approximately 120 to 210 drinks, depending on size and whether coffee or water is also served.
- When should I prepare the quiz equipment?
- Bring out the projector, screen, laptop, speakers and microphone at least 60 minutes before the start. Test the presentation, sound and power connections before guests arrive, not during registration.
