Computer course shopping list
Use this shopping list to prepare a computer course without missing the small items that slow down the first lesson. Plan one working laptop, charger and mouse per participant, plus a presentation setup for the instructor. Check software, user accounts, Wi-Fi and adapters before course day, not when attendees are waiting. The list also covers handouts, name badges, power equipment and a simple coffee and tea station.

Tips
- Plan one laptop, charger and mouse for every participant, then add at least one spare complete set if the course depends on hands-on practice. Label chargers and mice so they return to the right laptop.
- Bring the exact HDMI cable and adapter needed for the presentation laptop, projector and screen. Test the full setup at least 24 hours before the course, because a missing adapter is easy to overlook.
- Count power strips, extension cords and cable reels from the room layout rather than from the equipment list. Keep walkways clear and tape down cables before participants arrive.
- Prepare one printed handout and one name badge per registered participant, plus 5 extra copies of each. Put USB sticks or other course files at every workstation before the introduction.
- For a half-day course, plan roughly two cups of coffee or tea per person and set out reusable mugs, drinking glasses, serving trays and waste space before registration opens.
Frequently asked questions
- What do I need for a computer course?
- You need one laptop, charger and mouse per participant, plus presentation equipment, power strips, extension cords, network equipment and course materials. Add headsets when the exercises include audio or video.
- How many laptops should I bring to a computer course?

- How much coffee do I need for a computer course?
- For a half-day course, allow about two cups per person, or 24 cups for 12 participants, plus water. For a full-day course, plan around four cups per person and refill the coffee and tea station during the break.
- When should I test the computers and software?
- Test every laptop, account, software installation, charger, mouse and headset at least 24 hours before the course. Test the projector, Wi-Fi, network connection and presentation laptop again when you open the classroom.
