What you need for a city game
A city game needs more than clues and a route. You will need printed materials for every team, reliable writing supplies, visible team markers and a practical setup at the starting point. Plan drinks and snacks for the group, plus power banks and charging equipment if the game uses phones. This shopping list also covers reception, timing, signage and the small items that are easy to forget until teams are already waiting.

Tips
- Prepare one complete game pack per team: game cards, answer forms, pens, a clipboard, an envelope and a team bib or flag. Add at least 10% spare copies and pens.
- For the starting point, bring foldable tables, folding chairs, name stickers, markers, tape, scissors and a stapler. Pack these separately from the game materials so registration can start while the route packs are handed out.
- Allow two to three drinks per person for the first hour, then add one drink per person for each following hour. Use coolers and reusable cups, and buy extra napkins or serving supplies if snacks and sandwiches are included.
- Charge power banks before the event and take USB chargers, extension cords and power strips to the start location. Bring at least one spare charging option for every five teams if players rely on phones.
- Make the start easy to find with a start banner and team flags or bibs. Pack a portable speaker or megaphone for instructions, and bring waste bins so the starting area can be cleared quickly afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
- What supplies does each city game team need?
- Give each team its own game cards, answer forms, pens, clipboard, envelope and visible team marker. Prepare one pack per team plus at least 10% spare materials, so a lost card or pen does not delay the game.
- How many drinks should I buy for a city game?
- Plan two to three drinks per person for the first hour and one additional drink per person for every next hour. Add extra water for warm weather and keep everything chilled in coolers before teams leave.
- How many printed game cards and answer forms do I need?
- Print one complete set for every team, not just one set per participant. Add at least 10% spare copies and print the final version no later than 1β2 days before the game so there is time to check errors.
- What should I prepare at the city game starting point?
- Set up tables and chairs, a reception desk, team materials, name stickers, signage and waste bins. Have registration supplies ready at least 30 minutes before the advertised start, with the speaker or megaphone and charging equipment tested.
