Children's Quiz Checklist

A children’s quiz needs more preparation than writing a few questions. You need the right age level, clear team arrangements, tested equipment and a simple scoring system that keeps the event moving. This checklist takes you from choosing the date and theme to registering teams, setting up the room and welcoming children. Plan the quiz materials early, because printing, checking answers and preparing round cards are easy to leave until the last day.

Tips

  • Set the age group and quiz theme before writing questions. Aim for several short rounds rather than one long quiz, and have every question checked by someone who knows the children’s reading level.
  • Send invitations early enough to collect registrations and dietary requirements before shopping. Use the final registration list to assign teams and prepare the team registration desk.
  • Test the laptop, projector, screen, speaker and microphone together at the venue at least one day before the quiz. Check extension cords, power strips and the room layout, not just whether each device switches on.
  • Print answer forms, score sheets, round cards and questions before the event day, then sort one complete set for each team or round. Pack spare pens and pencils because they are among the first items to disappear.
  • Open the venue at least 60 minutes before guests arrive. Set up tables and chairs first, then the quiz tables, registration desk, buffet and decorations; chill drinks and wrap prizes before children enter the room.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I plan a children's quiz?
Start six to eight weeks ahead if you need to reserve a venue and collect registrations. Write and check the questions at least two weeks before the event, leaving the final week for printing, shopping and equipment testing.
How many questions should a children's quiz have?
Plan around 30 to 40 questions split into several short rounds, depending on the children’s ages and the total event time. Allow roughly 45 to 60 minutes for the quiz, including instructions, answers and scoring.
When should I assign teams for a children's quiz?
Assign teams after registrations close, usually three to seven days before the event. Prepare the team list, table signs and answer materials before opening the venue so registration does not delay the first round.
How early should I set up for a children's quiz?
Arrive at least 60 minutes before guests, or 90 minutes if you need to connect projection and sound equipment. Keep 15 minutes at the end for a complete equipment test and a quick check of every team table.
