Camino walk shopping list
A Camino walk needs more than food and water at the finish. You will also need supplies for registration, route marking, checkpoints, catering and a clearly managed start and finish area. This shopping list covers the practical items behind the plan, including coolers, reusable serving ware, route arrows, bib numbers, safety equipment and cleanup gear. Check quantities against your participant count, the number of route stops and the length of the walk before shopping.

Tips
- Plan drinking supplies by route stop, not just for the finish. Fill and chill the coolers before setup, and use thermos flasks for hot drinks so coffee and tea can be served without relying on one fixed point.
- Allow one bib number and one wristband per participant, plus a small spare batch for registration changes or damaged items. Sort them in advance so the registration desk is not delaying the start.
- Route arrows, barrier tape and safety vests are easy to underestimate on a walking route. Count every turn, crossing and checkpoint that needs marking, then keep extra arrows and tape available for last-minute route changes.
- Pack the serving equipment with the catering rather than leaving it at the finish. Plates, cutlery, reusable cups, serving tongs, platters, cutting boards and knives are needed wherever food or drinks are distributed.
- Charge walkie-talkies, mobile phone chargers and other charging equipment before the event, ideally the day before. Keep clipboards, pens and printed route maps together at the registration desk and with route-post volunteers.
Frequently asked questions
- How many bib numbers and wristbands do I need for a Camino walk?
- Prepare one bib number and one wristband for every registered participant. Add a spare batch of about 5% to 10%, so a group of 100 walkers would need roughly 105 to 110 of each.
- How much drinking equipment is needed for a Camino walk?
- Provide a drinks setup at every planned checkpoint and at the finish, using coolers for chilled drinks and thermos flasks for hot drinks. Base the amount on the participant count and refill schedule, and complete shopping at least 2 days before the walk.
- When should I buy route arrows and safety supplies?
- Buy route arrows, barrier tape and safety vests at least 1 week before the walk. This leaves time to check the route in person and add markings for crossings, turns and volunteer posts.
- What serving supplies do I need for catering along the route?
- For each catering point, plan reusable cups, plates, cutlery, serving tongs and at least one serving platter, plus cutting boards and suitable knives where food is prepared. Pack and distribute these supplies the day before so each stop receives its own set.
