What you need for a badminton training session
A badminton training session needs more than rackets and shuttlecocks. You also need enough nets, court-marking supplies and training equipment for the number of courts and groups you are running. Plan refreshments for registration and breaks, including coffee, tea, chilled drinks and reusable tableware. Check access, power and lighting supplies before shopping, because these are easy to overlook and can delay court setup.

Tips
- Count one racket per player where possible, plus at least 10% spare rackets for breakage or late arrivals. Buy or pack extra shuttlecocks: allow roughly 3 to 6 per player for a single training session, depending on intensity.
- Plan equipment by court rather than by participant. Each active court needs a net and net poles; add one set of cones, a whistle and a timer for each coach or training station.
- Bring floor-marking tape and scoreboards even if the hall already has court lines. Tape helps mark temporary zones, while scoreboards make drills and rotations easier to follow.
- For a two-hour session, provide about 2 to 3 drinks per person during the first hour and another 1 to 2 afterward. Chill drinks before participants arrive, and prepare enough reusable cups for one per person plus 10% spare.
- Check the hallβs power points before bringing the coffee maker, kettles, battery lamps, speaker or timer. Pack extension cords and power strips early; they are often forgotten until tables and registration equipment are already in place.
Frequently asked questions
- How many shuttlecocks do I need for badminton training?
- Allow 3 to 6 shuttlecocks per player for one session, depending on the drills and playing level. For 20 players, that means 60 to 120 shuttlecocks, with extra stock for damaged ones.
- How many badminton rackets are needed for a training session?
- Aim for one racket per participant, plus around 10% spare. For 20 players, pack at least 22 rackets so a broken or missing racket does not stop a drill.
- How many badminton nets do I need?
- You need one net for every court running at the same time. If the training uses four courts, prepare four nets and four sets of net poles, then check that the hall has enough space and secure access.
- How many drinks should I buy for badminton training?
- For a two-hour session, plan 3 to 5 drinks per person in total, depending on temperature and intensity. For 20 participants, that is 60 to 100 drinks; chill them before registration and keep some available for coaches.
