Animal show shopping list
An animal show needs more than display areas and a table for registration. Bring separate supplies for animal comfort, identification, cleaning, judging and visitor flow. Water containers, bowls, transport cages and ground cover are easy to underestimate when several breeds arrive at once. This shopping list also covers practical event equipment, from microphones and extension cords to waste bins, badges and program materials.

Tips
- Plan at least one drinking bowl and one feed bowl for each animal enclosure, plus spare bowls for cleaning or damage. Keep extra water containers available so animals are never left waiting while bowls are refilled.
- Use one transport cage or dog crate per animal that needs secure movement, and label each enclosure with an animal ID tag before arrivals begin. This prevents mix-ups during registration and judging.
- Bring ground cover for every animal zone and keep hay bins, feed bowls and water containers close to the relevant enclosures. Pack animal brushes, collars, lines and pet towels separately so handlers can find them quickly.
- Set up waste bins and dog waste bag dispensers along visitor routes, not only beside the registration desk. Keep poop scoops and replacement bags available throughout the show rather than storing everything in one locked area.
- Test speakers, microphones, microphone stands, extension cords and power strips before the program starts. Keep coolers for drinks and temperature-sensitive supplies away from animal feed and provide a clearly marked registration desk with name badges and program booklets.
Frequently asked questions
- What supplies do I need for an animal show?
- Plan for animal enclosures, transport cages, drinking and feed bowls, water containers, hay bins, ground cover, brushes, collars, lines, ID tags, poop scoops and waste bags. You will also need registration furniture, signage, program booklets, name badges, prizes, certificates and sound equipment.
- How many water bowls do I need for an animal show?
- Start with one drinking bowl per enclosure and keep at least 20% extra bowls available for washing, spills or damage. For 10 enclosures, prepare 12 bowls and enough water containers to refill them without interrupting the program.
- What should I buy for animal transport and holding areas?
- Provide one suitable transport cage or dog crate for each animal that cannot safely wait loose, plus animal enclosures for the holding areas. Add ground cover, water containers, bowls, hay bins where needed, animal ID tags and pet towels before animals arrive.
- When should I prepare the animal show shopping list?
- Order or reserve bulky items such as party tents, tables, chairs, enclosures and sound equipment at least 2 to 4 weeks before the show. Buy consumables such as waste bags, feed, water and printed materials after registrations close, usually 7 to 10 days before the event.
