Tips
- Pack one thermal clothing set and at least two pairs of ski socks per person for a multi-day trip. Socks and base layers get damp quickly, especially after lessons or a full day outdoors.
- Plan two to three drinks per person for the first hour of travel, then add water for the remaining journey. Fill thermos bottles before leaving and bring a cooler for fresh produce and chilled food.
- For each car travelling in snowy conditions, check that snow chains, an ice scraper, a snow shovel and reflective vests are packed before departure. These are easy to forget until the weather changes.
- Buy or reserve ski equipment at least 7 days before the trip when possible, including skis or snowboards, poles, helmets and goggles. Confirm sizes after the final participant list is complete.
- Pack shared kitchen tools in one clearly labelled box: cutting boards, a chefβs knife, vegetable peelers, measuring cups, serving spoons and storage boxes. Check this box against the meal plan before loading the vehicle.
Frequently asked questions
- What should I buy for a winter sports trip?
- Plan for ski or snowboard equipment, helmets, goggles, waterproof gloves, ski clothing, thermal layers and ski socks. Add travel supplies such as luggage tags, document folders, thermos bottles, coolers and winter car equipment, plus the shared kitchen items listed in the plan.
- How many ski socks do I need for a ski trip?
- Pack at least 2 pairs per person for a short multi-day trip, and 1 pair for every skiing day if you want a clean dry pair each morning. Keep spare socks in the backpack in case the first pair becomes wet.
- When should I order groceries for a winter sports trip?
- Order non-perishable groceries at least 3 to 5 days before departure and arrange fresh produce no later than the day before. Pick up chilled items just before leaving and keep them in a cooler during transport.
- What do I need in the car for a snowy ski trip?
- Pack snow chains, an ice scraper, a snow shovel and reflective vests in every car, along with navigation, phone chargers and a power bank. Check the vehicle and weather forecast 24 hours before departure so you can allow extra time for breaks and route changes.
