What you need for traffic safety training

Use this shopping list to prepare both the classroom session and the practical traffic course. Plan refreshments for the full training day, including coffee cups, glasses, plates and cutlery for the catering point. Check that presentation equipment and power supplies are available before participants arrive. For outdoor exercises, bring enough cones, barriers, warning triangles and reflective vests for each practice group. Count shared equipment by group, not just by participant, so exercises do not stop while people wait.

Tips

  • Plan two to three drinks per participant for the first hour, then one drink per person per hour; include extra water for outdoor practice and warm weather.
  • Provide one reflective vest per person working on the practice field, plus at least two spare vests in case a vest is damaged or forgotten.
  • Allow one traffic cone and one warning triangle for each marked hazard or stopping point, then add 10% extra so the course can be adjusted on site.
  • Prepare one complete catering place setting per participant, including a cup, glass, plate and cutlery set, plus 10% spare tableware for breakage or late additions.
  • Test the laptop, projector, screen, speakers, microphone, extension cords and power strips at least 24 hours before training; keep one spare extension cord available on the day.

Frequently asked questions

What should I buy for traffic safety training?
Buy or bring refreshments, coffee cups, glasses, plates, cutlery and serving platters for the catering setup. The practical session also needs traffic cones, barriers, warning triangles, reflective vests and the equipment assigned to each exercise.
How many reflective vests do I need for traffic training?
Plan one vest for every participant and instructor who enters the practice area. Add at least 2 spare vests, or about 10% extra for groups larger than 20 people.
How much catering equipment is needed per participant?
Prepare one cup, one glass, one plate and one cutlery set per participant. Add 10% spare tableware, so a group of 30 needs 33 of each item.
When should I check the equipment for traffic safety training?
Check the presentation equipment and practice cars at least 24 hours before the session. Set out the traffic materials and test the course on the training day, ideally 60 minutes before registration starts.
