What you need for a taekwondo tournament
A taekwondo tournament needs more than mats and medals. You need enough protective equipment for the number of competitors, reliable scoring and registration equipment, and clear systems for weigh-ins and matches. Check what the venue already provides before buying large items such as tables, chairs, speakers and power strips. Buy consumables and printed materials early, then keep a separate event-day box for cables, chargers, bands and match cards.

Tips
- Count protective equipment by competition area, not just by total attendance. Head protectors, breast pads, arm guards, shin guards and forearm protectors must be available in suitable sizes, with spare sets ready for equipment checks or damaged gear.
- Plan one scoring setup for every active competition area. Each area may need a scoreboard, handheld scoreboards, red and blue bands, match cards and a tablet or laptop, so check the timetable before deciding how many sets to prepare.
- Order medals, cups and other prizes at least 3β4 weeks before the tournament. Sort them by age group and weight class before event day; otherwise the presentation queue becomes a last-minute search.
- Test the technical kit in the sports hall 1β2 days beforehand. Connect printers, laptops, tablets, microphones, speakers, charging cables, power banks, extension cords and power strips, and confirm that cables reach every desk safely.
- Pack venue and competitor support separately from competition equipment. Reusable cups, plates, tables, chairs, changing-room benches, bollards and barrier tape are easy to overlook when the focus is on mats, scales and scoring gear.
Frequently asked questions
- How many taekwondo mats do I need for a tournament?
- That depends on the number of matches running at the same time and the hall layout. Plan one complete mat area for each active competition area, then add space for officials, coaches and safe access rather than buying only the fighting surface.
- How much protective equipment should I buy for a taekwondo tournament?
- Prepare enough head protectors, breast pads, arm guards, shin guards and forearm protectors for the busiest competition area, with at least 10% spare equipment where possible. Check sizes and condition 1β2 weeks before the event so replacements can still be arranged.
- When should I order medals and cups for a taekwondo tournament?
- Order them at least 3β4 weeks before the tournament, especially if they need event-specific text or sorting by category. Count awards from the final age groups and weight classes, then keep a small reserve for changes.
- What technology and power supplies are needed at a taekwondo tournament?
- For each scoring or registration desk, allow for the required laptop or tablet, printer access, charging cables and a reliable power connection. Bring at least one spare power bank and extension cord per active area, and test the complete setup 1β2 days before the event.
