What you need for a six-event competition

A six-event competition needs more than the equipment used in the games. You also need a clear way to mark teams, record results, protect the playing area and keep participants supplied throughout the day. Plan equipment by team and by game, then add spares for items that can break, get wet or disappear. This shopping list also covers practical items such as tables, coolers, shelter, waste bags and a battery speaker, which are often arranged too late.

Tips

  • Plan one set of team bibs and bib numbers for every team, plus a few spare numbers. Put the numbers on the bibs before registration so teams can be assembled quickly.
  • Prepare scoring supplies before the first event: scoreboards, waterproof game rules, score sheets, pens, stopwatches and measuring tapes should be packed together for each game leader.
  • Bring extra small equipment where possible. Plastic cups, soft balls, hoops, sponges and relay batons are easy to lose or damage, especially during water-based events.
  • Allow enough cold-storage space for the full competition day, not just the opening hour. Fill the coolers shortly before participants arrive and keep a separate cooler for backup drinks or food.
  • Pack site and weather equipment as part of the shopping run. Party tents, barrier tape, trash bags, plastic bins and a battery speaker are difficult to source at short notice on event day.

Frequently asked questions

What equipment do I need for a six-event competition?
You need game equipment such as cones, relay batons, tug-of-war ropes, buckets of water, soft balls, hoops, sponges and stopwatches. Add scoring materials, team bibs, bib numbers, waterproof rules, tables, coolers and shelter for the event setup.
How many team bibs should I buy for a six-event competition?
Buy one bib for every participant assigned to a team, then add at least 10% spare bibs for late changes, damage or lost items. Prepare the bib numbers before teams are assembled.
What should I buy for scoring six competition events?
Provide at least one scoreboard, score sheet set and pen set for each active game station, plus one central results board. Have spare pens and score sheets ready so scoring does not stop when a sheet gets wet or misplaced.
How early should I buy supplies for a six-event competition?
Buy or reserve non-perishable equipment at least 1–2 weeks ahead. Check coolers, tents, the battery speaker and game materials again 2–3 days before the competition, then shop for perishable refreshments as late as practical.
