What you need for a regional cycling championship
A regional cycling championship needs more than bikes, medals and a start line. You will need separate supplies for registration, judging, course control, timing, announcements and the finish area, plus shelter and catering equipment for riders, officials and volunteers. Plan quantities around the number of starters and the length of the event day. The items most often arranged too late are bib holders, printed start information, power for the timing desk, coolers and clearly visible course signs.

Tips
- Prepare one registration station for every 75 to 100 riders expected at peak arrival time. Each station needs a table, laptop access, printer access, bib numbers, bib holders and enough extension leads to avoid cables crossing walkways.
- Allow at least one visible course sign or cone arrangement at every turn, junction and hazard. Pack spare signs, cones and course tape separately so marshals can replace anything moved during the race.
- Set aside a dedicated judgesβ table with chairs, stopwatches, a laptop and reliable power. Bring at least two stopwatches so a single equipment failure does not affect the results.
- For a full-day championship, provide roughly two reusable cups per person if washing is unavailable between services, and match plates, forks, knives and spoons to the number of catering guests plus a 10 percent reserve.
- Test the portable sound system and wireless microphones before riders arrive, then keep the finish clock, laptop, printer, power strips and extension cords together in a labelled timing kit. This prevents the timing desk from searching for cables during the first race.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for a regional cycling championship?
- You need bib numbers and holders, cones, course tape, round signs, a finish clock and stopwatches. Add tables, chairs, a laptop, printer, sound system, microphones, extension cords and power strips for registration, judging and announcements.
- How many bib numbers should I order for a cycling championship?
- Order one bib number per registered rider, then add at least 10 percent for late entries, damaged numbers and replacements. For 200 riders, prepare about 220 bib numbers and matching holders.
- How much catering equipment is needed for a cycling race?
- Count one plate, fork, knife and spoon per planned serving, then add 10 percent. For 150 guests, that means at least 165 of each item; provide about two reusable cups per person when cups cannot be washed during the day.
- When should I prepare the course signage and timing equipment?
- Sort bibs, holders and signs at least 3 days before the championship. Test the finish clock, stopwatches, printer, laptop, sound system and microphones no later than the day before, and check power connections again before setup.
