Prayer Walk Shopping List

A prayer walk needs more than printed prayer themes and a route. Plan supplies for the meeting point, the walk itself and the final gathering, including hot drinks, soup, lighting and weather protection. Buy or collect disposable-free tableware, route signs and name labels early enough to check quantities. For a walking group, prepare at least one phone and one power bank for coordination, plus visible safety equipment for anyone leading or closing the group.

Tips

  • Plan one reusable cup, bowl, plate and cutlery set per participant, then add 10% extra for damage, late arrivals or second servings. Count coffee cups separately if you will serve hot drinks before or after the walk.
  • Prepare one route map and one prayer card per participant, plus a small spare stack of 5 to 10 copies. Keep the maps dry in a folder or waterproof container so a sudden shower does not make them unusable.
  • Set out one reflective vest for each route leader, tail walker and crossing volunteer. Give every person responsible for a section a working phone, and charge the power banks before the group arrives.
  • For an evening walk, use at least one headlamp or flashlight for each leader and place LED lanterns or wind lights at both gathering points. Test batteries and lighting on the route the day before, not just at setup time.
  • Buy rain ponchos for the people managing the walk and keep a first aid kit at the start and finish areas if the route is long. Check the weather 24 hours before the event and again 2 hours before departure so you can adjust the supplies or route message.

Frequently asked questions

What food and drink do I need for a prayer walk?
For each participant, plan one hot drink at the start or finish and one bowl of soup if soup is part of the gathering. Add 10% extra portions, and prepare bread, serving spoons, cups and bowls before the group leaves.
How many route maps and prayer cards should I print?
Print one route map and one prayer card per registered participant, plus 5 to 10 spare copies. Print them at least 2 days before the walk so you still have time to correct a route change.
What safety equipment is needed for an evening prayer walk?
Provide reflective vests for route leaders, crossing volunteers and the person at the back of the group. Take at least one headlamp or flashlight per leader, and test all lights and batteries 24 hours before departure.
When should I buy supplies for a prayer walk?
Buy non-perishable supplies, tableware and printed-material supplies 3 to 5 days ahead. Get soup, bread and other fresh items the day before, then check the final participant count and weather again 2 hours before starting.
