What to buy for a musical camp
A musical camp needs more than scripts and costumes. You will need supplies for rehearsals, shared meals, changing areas, sound, lighting and the final stage setup. Plan quantities around the number of participants and keep a few spare items ready, especially cables, batteries, tape and serving equipment. This checklist helps you shop before the camp starts instead of trying to find missing essentials between rehearsals.

Tips
- Plan two to three reusable cups per participant if washing facilities are limited. Add enough plates, cutlery and serving utensils for the largest meal, not just the average snack break.
- Bring one water jug for roughly 10 participants and refill it between rehearsal blocks. Coolers are useful for keeping drinks cold when the kitchen or refrigerator is not near the rehearsal rooms.
- Allow at least one microphone stand per microphone and pack extension cords, power strips and gaffer tape together. Test the mixer, wireless microphones, laptop and Bluetooth speakers before participants arrive.
- Prepare one clothes rack for each main changing area and label costume groups before camp begins. Wash and sort costumes early; last-minute repairs or missing costume pieces are difficult to solve during rehearsals.
- Use stage signs, backdrop cloths, bunting and string lights to mark the performance area, but keep cables away from walkways. Pack a small amount of spare tape and a balloon pump rather than relying on the venueβs supplies.
Frequently asked questions
- What food and drink supplies do I need for a musical camp?
- Plan at least two reusable cups per participant, plus plates and cutlery for the largest shared meal. Provide one water jug for every 10 participants and enough cold storage for the drinks served during each rehearsal block.
- How many microphones do I need for a musical camp?
- The number depends on the performance setup, but plan one wireless microphone for each simultaneous speaking or singing position. For every microphone, bring one microphone stand where appropriate, and test the mixer and speakers at least one day before camp.
- When should I buy costumes and props for musical camp?
- Buy or collect the main costumes and props at least two weeks before the camp. Sort and check them before the first rehearsal so role changes, missing pieces or simple repairs can be handled in time.
- How much lighting and decoration do I need for a musical camp?
- Use enough LED spotlights to cover the performance area without leaving the actors in shadow, then add string lights, backdrop cloths and stage signs as needed. Set up and test the lights before the final rehearsal, with cables secured using gaffer tape.
