What to buy for a music camping weekend

A music camping weekend needs more than tents and drinks. You’ll be feeding people outdoors, keeping food and beverages cold, and running sound equipment where power may be limited. Use the quantities in your guest list to scale food, reusable tableware and drinks, then check the weather before buying shelter and lighting supplies. The easiest items to forget are extension cords, power banks, serving utensils and enough cups for the full weekend.

Tips

  • Plan around two to three drinks per person for the first hour, then one drink per person per hour. Add extra water for warm weather and keep a separate supply available at the campsite.
  • Allow at least one reusable plate, bowl, cup, knife, fork and spoon per guest per meal. For a weekend event, buy or pack 20% extra cups and cutlery so washing delays do not stop service.
  • Use one cooler for drinks and another for food if possible. Pack raw ingredients separately, wash fruit and vegetables before leaving, and prepare marinades and snacks at least a few hours before the first meal.
  • Check every performer’s equipment list before shopping for audio gear. Test microphones, stands, the mixer, speakers, power strips and extension cords together no later than the day before departure.
  • Bring one power bank per person who needs phone access, plus spare charging cables. Count the distance from the power source to the stage and pack extension cords long enough to keep cables away from walkways and wet ground.

Frequently asked questions

How much food do I need for a music camping weekend?
Plan three main meals per person per full day, plus two snack portions. For a two-day weekend, that means six meals and four snack portions per guest, with extra food for performers and late arrivals.
How many drinks should I buy for a camping music weekend?
Start with two to three drinks per person for the first hour, then one per person per hour. Add at least 1.5 litres of water per person per day, and increase that amount in hot weather.
How many cups and plates do I need for a weekend event?
Pack one reusable plate, bowl, cup, knife, fork and spoon per guest for each meal, or plan a reliable washing schedule. Keep 20% extra cups and cutlery available for breakages, loss and busy periods.
When should I check the camping and sound equipment?
Check the shopping list and test all sound equipment at least 24 hours before leaving. Inspect tents, party tents, tables, chairs, coolers and power supplies again on the morning of setup.
