What you need for a motorhome driving skills day
A motorhome driving skills day needs more than vehicles and a practice area. Bring enough equipment to mark out the course, guide drivers safely and communicate across the site. You will also need supplies for vehicle checks, registration, lunch and hot drinks. Use the quantities below as a starting point, then adjust them to the number of participants, instructors and practice lanes.

Tips
- Allow 1 walkie-talkie for each instructor or marshal, plus 1 spare, and charge every unit the evening before. A megaphone is useful when several drivers need the same instruction at once.
- For each practice lane, prepare at least 6 traffic cones, 4 slalom poles and 2 traffic signs. Add warning triangles and marking spray before the event; these are easy to overlook until the course is being set out.
- Bring 1 tire pressure gauge for every 2 vehicles, along with the vehicle safety-check materials. Check batteries in stopwatches and pack 1 stopwatch per active instructor or timed exercise.
- For catering, plan 2 drinks per person for the first hour, then 1 drink per hour afterwards. Provide at least 1 reusable plate, bowl, glass, coffee cup and cutlery set per participant, plus 10% extra for replacements.
- Plan 1 table for registration and safety information, then 1 serving table for every 20 to 25 people. Pack power strips, cable reels, chargers and power banks, and test outdoor or work lights before setting up.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for a motorhome driving skills day?
