Handball Training Checklist

A handball training session runs smoothly when the hall, coaches, players and equipment are ready before the first whistle. Book the sports hall early, confirm registrations and dietary requirements, then build the training plan around your available trainers and court time. On the day, allow time to check the goals, nets, changing rooms and safety equipment before participants arrive. This checklist also covers drinks, food and the practical details that are easy to leave until the last minute.

Tips

  • Confirm the sports hall booking and access time at least 2–3 weeks ahead. You need enough time before training to open the building, check the changing rooms and clear the court.
  • Close registration 3–5 days before training and use the final participant list to assign teams. Check dietary requirements at the same time rather than when the meal is being served.
  • Prepare the training plan before laying out equipment. Match each drill to the handballs, bibs, cones, marker discs, ladders, ropes, bands and mats you will actually use.
  • Check both goals and their nets before players arrive, and inflate the handballs with the pump if needed. Keep the ball net, spare shirts, whistles, first aid kit, ice packs and athletic tape courtside.
  • Chill drinks and prepare the meal several hours before the session. Set out cups, plates, cutlery and serving utensils before training ends so players are not waiting while food is portioned.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I book a sports hall for handball training?
Book the hall at least 2–3 weeks in advance, and earlier if you need a popular evening or weekend slot. Confirm the access time separately so staff can enter before participants arrive.
How many coaches and support staff do I need for handball training?
Plan for at least one lead trainer plus one additional adult for each group or court area being supervised. For a larger session, confirm the final ratio after registrations close, usually 3–5 days before training.
When should I check the handball equipment?
Do a full equipment check 1–2 days before training, then repeat a quick safety check when the hall opens. Test the goals and nets, inflate the balls, and place first aid supplies courtside before warm-up.
How much time is needed to set up a handball training session?
Allow 30–45 minutes before participants arrive for opening the hall, checking changing rooms, clearing the court and laying out training materials. Add another 15 minutes if goals, tables or a meal area need to be assembled.
