Fourcross race shopping list
A Fourcross race needs more than bikes and a starting gate. This shopping list covers the course setup, rider identification, repair equipment, timing, communications, power and spectator areas. Buy or collect the items early enough to test batteries, printers, laptops and the timing system before race day. Keep spare tubes, pumps and tool sets at the course rather than in a distant storage area, because small bike problems can delay a heat quickly.

Tips
- Prepare bib numbers, bib holders and a working printer at least one day before the race. Print a few spare numbers and keep them with the registration team for late changes or damaged bibs.
- Count course barriers, cones and rolls of barrier tape against the course inspection plan, then bring extra tape for repairs. Mark the start, finish and restricted areas before riders arrive.
- Charge walkie-talkies, tablets, laptops and mobile chargers the evening before. Test every radio channel and keep power strips, extension cords and the generator together so timing and announcements do not depend on one outlet.
- Set up a dedicated bike-support point with pumps, tool sets, spare inner tubes and bicycle stands. Place it close enough to the course that a rider or mechanic can reach it between heats without crossing the race line.
- Plan the spectator and volunteer area as well as the track. Party tents, tables, chairs, waste bins, speakers and microphones should be checked before opening, especially if rain or a long day requires shelter and clear announcements.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for a Fourcross race?
- You need course-control equipment such as a starting gate, barriers, cones, barrier tape and competition flags. You also need bibs, timing equipment, radios, power supplies, communication equipment and bike-repair tools.
- How many spare inner tubes should I buy for a Fourcross race?
- Use at least 1 spare inner tube per 10 registered riders, with a minimum of 4 tubes for a small field. Bring extra sizes if riders use different wheel standards, and buy them at least 1 week before the race.
- When should I charge the Fourcross race equipment?
- Charge walkie-talkies, tablets, laptops, mobile chargers and timing batteries the evening before the race. Test the equipment for at least 30 minutes afterward and keep chargers available on race day.
- What should I bring if the Fourcross race loses power?
- Bring a generator, extension cords and power strips, and test the generator at least 24 hours before the event. Keep timing, registration and public announcements on separate power connections where possible.
