What you need for a Fortnite tournament

A Fortnite tournament needs more than gaming PCs and screens. Plan the shopping around the number of players, team setup and time between matches, then add supplies for registration, food and technical backups. Ethernet cables, power strips and spare equipment are easy to overlook and can stop a tournament before the first round. This checklist covers the practical items to bring or buy, from gaming headsets and network hardware to drinks, serving supplies and cable ties.

Tips

  • Plan one complete gaming setup per player, including a computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse and headset. Add at least one backup computer and one backup monitor so a hardware failure does not remove a player from the tournament.
  • Use Ethernet cables for the gaming stations and bring more than the exact number required. Pack spare cables, network switches, a Wi-Fi router and cable ties before the event day so loose connections can be replaced quickly.
  • Count power strips and extension cords by station rather than by room. Leave spare outlets for the registration desk, projector, speakers, administrative laptops and charging power banks.
  • Provide at least two reusable cups per attendee if you will not be washing them during the event. Add plates, cutlery sets and serving platters according to the number of people eating, with extra portions for staff and late arrivals.
  • Prepare the registration area separately from the gaming area. Bring an administrative laptop, USB sticks and the registration desk supplies, and keep backup equipment, HDMI cables and power banks together where staff can reach them within a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How many gaming computers do I need for a Fortnite tournament?
You need one gaming computer for each player using a station. For example, 20 players require 20 computers; add at least 1 backup computer, and more if the tournament runs for several hours.
How many Ethernet cables should I buy for a Fortnite tournament?
Count one cable for every wired gaming station and add 2 to 4 spare cables for a small tournament. For 20 stations, prepare at least 22 to 24 Ethernet cables, with network switches sized for the total number of connections.
How many drinks and cups do I need per player?
Plan two to three drinks per person for the first hour, then one to two drinks per person for each additional hour. Bring at least two reusable cups per attendee unless you can wash and reuse them during the tournament.
When should I buy and test the tournament equipment?
Buy consumables and prizes at least 2 to 3 days before the tournament. Test every computer, monitor, headset, network connection and backup setup at least 24 hours before players arrive, then charge equipment again on the event day.
