First Aid Course Shopping List
Use this shopping list to prepare a hands-on first aid course without running short of training or serving supplies. Plan equipment by practice station, not just by participant, because several people may need to work at the same time. Check expiry dates on first aid materials before ordering replacements, and allow time for certificates, printed forms and participant information. The list also covers the less obvious items, such as extension cords, reception supplies and enough cups, plates and cutlery for the catering.

Tips
- Plan one practice mat and one CPR manikin for each active practice station. If 12 participants practise in groups of three, prepare at least four stations so nobody waits too long.
- Have at least one AED trainer available for each practice group, and test every device before the course starts. Do not rely on a real AED for demonstrations.
- Count disposable first aid materials by exercise, not only by person. Prepare extra nitrile gloves, dressings and bandages for damaged, dropped or contaminated practice materials.
- Set up the reception table with the participant list, registration forms, pens and mobile phone at least 30 minutes before arrival. Keep certificates separate until attendance has been confirmed.
- For a full-day course, allow roughly 2β3 cups of coffee or tea per participant, plus water or other drinks. Order plates, glasses, mugs and cutlery for the full group and keep 10% extra available.
Frequently asked questions
- What do I need to buy for a first aid course?
- You need practice equipment such as CPR manikins, an AED trainer and practice mats, plus bandages, gloves, dressings, triangular cloths and first aid kits. Also prepare presentation equipment, printed forms, reception supplies and refreshments for every participant.
- How many CPR manikins do I need for 12 participants?
- Plan for at least 4 CPR manikins if participants practise in groups of three. Use 6 manikins if you want pairs to practise at the same time and reduce waiting.
- How much catering should I order for a first aid course?
- For a full-day course, allow 2β3 hot drinks per person, plus water or another cold drink. Order one meal and one snack per participant, and add about 10% extra for late registrations or larger portions.
- When should I check first aid course materials?
- Check equipment, packaging and expiry dates 7β14 days before the course. Recheck the packed materials the day before, and test the projector, laptop, AED trainer and power connections before participants arrive.
