What to buy for a diving competition
A diving competition needs more than pool access and sports equipment. You need clear judging materials, visible scoring, registration supplies, refreshments and a safe layout for athletes, officials and spectators. This shopping list covers the items that are often forgotten until setup day, including power, signage, seating and catering equipment. Use your final participant count to adjust cups, plates, drinks and printed materials, while keeping spare supplies for late registrations and replacements.

Tips
- Prepare one complete jury set for every judge: a clipboard, jury forms, a pen and a clearly marked place at the jury table. Pack at least two spare pens per table so scoring does not stop during a round.
- Plan catering by service rather than by guesswork. For a half-day competition, provide at least one drink per person per hour, plus extra water jugs and coolers for athletes, judges and volunteers.
- Keep registration and results operational with a laptop, printer, extension cords and power strips at the control desk. Bring at least 10% more printed participant and start lists than the registered field to cover corrections and late changes.
- Mark the competition area before athletes arrive. Use cones and barrier tape for access routes, and place non-slip mats where officials or participants may stand on wet surfaces; check the entire route during setup.
- Do not leave prizes and presentation materials until the final hour. Collect the ordered prizes at least one working day before the competition and store them with the scoreboard markers, bib numbers and ceremony supplies.
Frequently asked questions
- What do I need for judging a diving competition?
- Prepare one clipboard and jury form set per judge, plus jury table cards and spare pens. Have the tables, chairs and scoring materials in place at least 60 minutes before the first dive so officials can check the paperwork.
- How many cups and drinks do I need for a diving competition?
- For a half-day event, allow at least one drink per person per hour and add a 10% buffer. Reusable cups, water jugs, coolers, coffee cups and thermos flasks cover both cold drinks and the officialsβ refreshment station.
- What equipment is easily forgotten at a diving competition?
- Power strips, extension cords, printer supplies, scoreboard markers and barrier tape are common omissions. Check these items 24 hours before setup, then test the laptop, printer, sound system and microphones on site.
- When should I prepare the start lists and participant paperwork?
- Print the participant list and start lists after registrations and starting groups are confirmed, ideally no later than the day before. Bring at least 10% extra copies and keep the digital file on the control laptop for last-minute corrections.
