What You Need for a Darts Tournament

A darts tournament needs more than dartboards and arrows. You will also need reliable scoring supplies, clear match cards, enough tables and chairs, and a registration point that works before the first match starts. Plan refreshments separately from the playing area so drinks and snacks do not interfere with equipment or scorekeeping. This shopping list covers the practical items to buy, borrow or bring for a smooth tournament setup.

Tips

  • Plan one working dartboard for each active match lane, plus at least one complete spare dart set and spare arrows. Check every board, power connection and light before participants arrive.
  • Prepare one match card and at least two pens for each scheduled match, then add 10% extra cards and pens for replays, lost sheets or last-minute changes.
  • Allow one score table and two chairs per active board. Keep a separate registration desk near the entrance, with enough space to check the participant list without blocking the playing area.
  • For drinks, provide at least two glasses per guest if there is no reliable washing point. Chill drinks before arrival and keep coolers away from dart lanes, cables and score tables.
  • Set aside serving equipment before shopping for food: small bowls for snacks, plates and cutlery for buffet items, and coffee cups, kettles, a coffee maker and thermos flasks if hot drinks are included.

Frequently asked questions

How many dartboards do I need for a tournament?
Use one working dartboard for each match lane running at the same time. Add one spare board only if the tournament is large enough that a board failure would otherwise stop play.
How many dart sets should I bring to a darts tournament?
Bring at least one complete dart set per active lane, plus one spare set for equipment failure or a participant who forgets theirs. Keep spare arrows available as well.
How many match cards and pens do I need?
Prepare one match card for every scheduled match and add about 10% extra. Bring at least two pens per active score table, with several additional pens at registration.
When should I buy drinks and snacks for a darts tournament?
Buy non-perishable snacks and serving supplies 1–2 days beforehand. Chill drinks on the day itself, ideally 3–4 hours before registration, so they are cold without taking over the tournament setup.
