CrossFit competition shopping list
A CrossFit competition needs more than barbells and bumper plates. You also need practical supplies for registration, judging, scoring, athlete identification, crowd control and refreshments. Match every equipment choice to the workouts and number of heats, then buy or borrow extras before competition day. This list helps you check the items most often forgotten, including race bib straps, extension cords, reusable cups and supplies for jury tables.

Tips
- Plan equipment by workout and heat, not just by total athlete count. For example, a workout with four stations needs four complete station setups available at the same time.
- Keep at least one spare stopwatch, microphone and extension cord on hand. A single dead battery or missing cable can delay a heat and affect the schedule.
- Prepare one competition bib and one race bib strap for every registered athlete, plus a small number of spares for damaged or misplaced bibs.
- Count reusable cups and coffee cups against expected athletes, judges, volunteers and spectators. If 100 people may drink, prepare more than 100 cups so they are not washed between every use.
- Buy or borrow venue supplies at least 3β5 days before the event. This leaves time to test the speakers, wireless microphones, music player, rowing machines and air bikes before setup.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for a CrossFit competition?
- You need the equipment required by the programmed workouts, such as barbells, bumper plates, kettlebells, dumbbells, plyo boxes, rings, pull-up bars and skipping ropes. Add rubber floor tiles, cones and barrier tape to mark safe competition zones.
- How many competition bibs should I buy?
- Buy one bib and one race bib strap per registered athlete, then add around 5β10% spare bibs. For 80 athletes, that means 80 assigned bibs and 4β8 extras.
- How many stopwatches do judges need?
- Provide one stopwatch for every judge or timing station, plus at least one spare. For 12 judges, prepare 13 stopwatches so one failure does not stop scoring.
- When should I buy supplies for a CrossFit competition?
- Complete the shopping at least 3β5 days before competition day. Test electrical equipment and confirm that rented or borrowed sports equipment is available no later than the day before setup.
