What you need for a boxing match

A boxing match needs more than gloves and a ring. This shopping list covers the equipment used between bouts, at ringside and in the changing rooms, including safety gear, timing tools, paperwork, furniture and awards. Plan one water bottle and one towel per boxer, then add spares for delays or damaged equipment. Check the ring parts, protective equipment and medical supplies before the venue opens so missing items can still be replaced.

Tips

  • Prepare at least one complete set of ring components: canvas, poles, ropes and corner protectors. Check every connection before the first bout rather than discovering a problem during setup.
  • Provide boxing gloves, hand wraps, headgear and body protectors for each boxer who needs shared equipment, plus spare pairs in common sizes. Gloves and headgear should be checked for damage before weighing and warm-up.
  • Keep one working bell, round timer and at least two stopwatches at ringside. Test the timing equipment before the first match and keep a backup stopwatch with the officials.
  • Set out one water bottle and one towel per boxer, with extra bottles and towels for a full programme. Label changing-room supplies so used towels and unopened bottles do not get mixed up.
  • Prepare scorecards, competition forms, clipboards and pens before the judges arrive. Print enough paperwork for every scheduled bout, then add at least 10% spare copies for corrections or late changes.
