What you need for a badminton tournament

Use this shopping list to prepare a badminton tournament from venue setup through registration and match scoring. It covers court equipment such as nets, poles, shuttles and scoreboards, plus tables, power supplies, printing equipment and refreshments. Plan quantities from your confirmed player count and number of courts: each active court needs its own net, poles and scoring setup. Buy or collect spare items before tournament day, not after the first shuttle breaks or a racket grip comes loose.

Tips

  • Prepare one net, one pair of net poles and one scoreboard for every active court, then add at least one spare set if the venue does not provide equipment. Check the sports flooring and court markings before players arrive.
  • Count match shuttles by court and round, and keep spare shuttles at the competition table. A tournament with several rounds can use more than one shuttle per match, especially when matches are played simultaneously.
  • Set up the registration desk with a table, chairs, laptop, printer, extension cords and power strips at least 60 minutes before registration opens. Test the printer and bring power banks in case outlets are limited.
  • For refreshments, count one reusable cup per participant plus a reserve of 10–15%, and provide coffee cups, plates, cutlery and serving platters if food is served. Put thermos flasks and soup bowls together at the refreshment point so volunteers do not need to search during matches.
  • Pack small replacement items separately: spare grips, spare shuttles, whistles and field marking tape. Label this kit and place it at the competition table before the first match; these are easy to forget and difficult to find once play has started.

Frequently asked questions

What equipment do I need for a badminton tournament?
For each active court, plan one badminton net, one pair of net poles, match shuttles and a scoreboard. Also prepare rackets if players cannot bring their own, plus spare shuttles, whistles, grips and field marking tape.
How many badminton nets do I need for a tournament?
You need one net and one pair of poles per court used at the same time. Add one spare net or confirm that the sports hall keeps replacement equipment on site at least 24 hours before the tournament.
How many cups should I buy for a badminton tournament?
Plan one reusable cup per participant and add 10–15% extra, so a tournament with 60 participants needs 66–69 cups. Add coffee cups separately if hot drinks are served.
When should I prepare the tournament equipment?
Check sports equipment and the venue at least 1 day before the tournament. On the day itself, open the venue and set up registration, power, courts and scoring equipment at least 60 minutes before the first match.
