What to bring and buy for an animal camp
An animal camp needs more than feed and a few outdoor games. You will need supplies for meals, drinks, group activities, weather changes, animal care and basic safety. Plan quantities around the number of participants, then add a small reserve for spills, damaged materials and unexpected delays. Check dietary requirements, allergies and fears before shopping, and pick up animal feed early enough that it is ready when the care schedule starts.

Tips
- Allow 2β3 drinks per person for the first hour, then 1 drink per person per additional hour. Bring coolers, ice packs and serving jugs so drinks stay cold and can be refilled safely.
- Pack 10β15% extra plates, cups and cutlery beyond the registered group size. Outdoor camps lose or dirty items more easily than an indoor meal, especially when several activity groups eat at different times.
- Buy animal feed only after confirming the animals and handlers. Check the required type and amount with the handler, and collect the feed at least 1 day before camp rather than leaving it until the morning of the event.
- For each activity group, prepare one set of notebooks and pencils plus a complete set of quiz cards, cones, hoops or ropes. Add at least 2 spare pencils and a few extra activity markers for every group.
- Check practical safety supplies the day before: first aid materials, flashlights, extension cords and power strips. Charge the mobile phone, check the weather forecast within 24 hours, and keep a dry backup area available with tents or covered tables.
Frequently asked questions
- How much food and drink do I need for an animal camp?
- Plan food portions for every registered participant and add 10β15% extra for spills, seconds and late additions. For drinks, allow 2β3 per person in the first hour and 1 per person for each additional hour.
- When should I buy animal feed for an animal camp?
- Confirm the animals and their handlers first, then collect the feed at least 1 day before camp. This leaves time to check the quantity, store it correctly and fix a missing item before participants arrive.
- How many cups, plates and cutlery sets should I bring?
- Use the final participant count as your base and add 10β15% extra of each item. For 30 participants, that means preparing about 33β35 cups, plates and cutlery sets.
- What should I pack for animal camp activities?
- Prepare one complete activity set per group, including the required quiz cards, hoops, cones, ropes, blindfolds, notebooks and pencils. Add at least 2 spare pencils and extra markers per group, and check everything 1 day before the camp.
