Welding Workshop Shopping List

A welding workshop needs more than welding machines and metal. Plan one complete safety setup for every participant, plus reliable power, extraction, lighting, and tools for each workstation. Include consumables and project materials based on the designs you have chosen, then prepare drinks and simple food for breaks. The list below covers the equipment and supplies commonly needed for a hands-on session, including items that are often forgotten until participants arrive.

Tips

  • Provide one welding helmet, pair of welding gloves, welding apron, and suitable eye and hearing protection per participant. Keep at least one spare set available for damaged or forgotten gear.
  • Match the number of welding machines, grounding clamps, welding cables, and workstations to the final participant list. For a practical session, avoid making more than one person share the same active workstation.
  • Arrange air extractors before the workshop, not on the day itself. Check that every workstation has effective ventilation and that fans do not blow fumes toward another participant.
  • Buy extra cut-off discs, lamella discs, and other consumables after calculating the projects. A small reserve prevents one worn disc or failed component from stopping the whole group.
  • Set aside a clearly marked area for hot work, waste, first aid, and fire equipment. Put fire extinguishers and fire blankets within immediate reach, and keep barrier tape available to separate the work zone from reception and refreshments.

Frequently asked questions

How many welding helmets do I need for a workshop?
Plan one welding helmet per person who may weld at the same time. Add at least one spare helmet for a group session, so a damaged or incorrectly adjusted helmet does not stop the workshop.
How many welding machines are needed for 10 participants?
For 10 participants, provide 5 welding machines if people work in pairs, or 10 machines for individual workstations. Base the final number on the project format and the available power supply.
What safety equipment is needed for a welding workshop?
Each participant needs welding gloves, a welding apron, eye protection, hearing protection, and suitable safety shoes. Prepare fire extinguishers, fire blankets, first aid kits, barrier tape, and suitable respiratory protection before the workshop starts.
When should I buy materials for a welding workshop?
Finalize the projects and calculate material quantities at least 1 to 2 weeks before the workshop. Buy non-perishable supplies and consumables early, then check fresh items and the complete equipment list again 1 to 2 days before the session.
