Tips

Count equipment by volunteer group, not just by total attendance. Each route team should have enough work gloves, safety vests and litter pickers to start at the same time.
Bring extra safety gear for late arrivals and replacements. A reserve of at least 10% is useful for torn gloves, missing sizes or volunteers who arrive without suitable clothing.
Set aside route-control equipment before the cleanup starts. Traffic cones, barrier tape and a megaphone should be easy to reach at the meeting point, not packed underneath cleaning supplies.
Plan the drinks station for the full activity period. Use coolers, thermos flasks or water dispensers, and bring reusable cups so volunteers can refill without stopping the registration table.
Prepare a separate waste-handling load. Waste bins, buckets, scoops and hand trucks make it easier to move collected litter safely when teams return from their routes.
