Sports Camp Shopping List
A sports camp needs more than balls and a place to play. Plan equipment for each activity, plus hydration, serving supplies, shade, seating, and a simple way to keep materials organised. Reusable cups, water dispensers, coolers, and labelled storage crates prevent queues and misplaced gear. Check quantities against your participant list and programme before shopping, especially when several teams use the same equipment during the day.

Tips
- Plan at least one ball or main piece of equipment per active group, then add a few spare balls for activities such as football, basketball, handball, volleyball, and tennis. This keeps a damaged or misplaced item from stopping a session.
- Provide one reusable cup per participant, plus at least 10% extra. For a full sports day, use water dispensers and coolers at more than one point so participants do not all queue at the same table.
- Match team equipment to the number of teams: prepare one set of team bibs, cones or marker discs, and an assigned storage crate for each team. Label the crates before the camp starts.
- Bring practical competition equipment, not just sports gear: allow one whistle and stopwatch for each active playing area, and keep scoreboards, measuring tapes, and relay batons together at the registration or officials' table.
- Set aside shade and seating before shopping is finished. Count one chair per seated volunteer or staff member, and arrange enough covered table space for registration, refreshments, first-aid supplies, and serving equipment.
Frequently asked questions
- What should I buy for a sports camp?
- Buy the sports equipment required by the programme, including balls, sticks, cones, marker discs, team bibs, stopwatches, whistles, scoreboards, mats, and storage crates. Add drinking, serving, seating, shade, and first-aid supplies so the day can run without borrowing essentials.
- How many drinks do I need for a sports camp?
- Plan at least 1.5 to 2 litres of water per participant for a full active day, with extra available in hot weather. Provide one reusable cup per person and add 10% spare cups for loss or replacement.
- How many sports balls do I need per team?
- Start with one main ball per active team or playing group, then add two or three spare balls for each sport used. If several activities run at once, count equipment by playing area rather than by the total number of participants.
- When should I prepare the sports camp shopping?
- Finalise the shopping list at least 7 days before camp, once the programme, participant numbers, dietary needs, and venue are confirmed. Buy drinks, serving supplies, and disposable backup items no later than 1 to 2 days beforehand.
