Sleepover party shopping list
Plan the shopping around three things guests need throughout the night: a comfortable place to sleep, easy food and drinks, and activities that work indoors. Count one complete sleeping setup per guest, including an air mattress or bed, fitted sheet, sleeping bag or blanket, and cushion. Add extra cups, snacks and drinks so you are not washing up or shopping again after bedtime. Keep chargers, extension cords and night lighting separate from the food and decoration supplies.

Tips
- Count sleeping places before you shop. Prepare one air mattress or bed, fitted sheet, sleeping bag or blanket, and cushion for every guest, then add one spare blanket for a cold room or a late arrival.
- Plan drinks by time of day. Allow two to three drinks per person for the first hour, then keep chilled water and other drinks available in a cooler for refills during the evening.
- Buy snacks in portions that can be served without cooking. Use bowls and serving spoons for shared food, and keep plates, cups, mugs and cutlery together so the table can be set in one go.
- Check the movie setup before the party starts. Test the projector, movie screen, Bluetooth speaker and extension cords at least one day ahead; a missing cable is harder to replace once guests have arrived.
- Shop for the room after counting furniture. Low tables, lounge cushions, tables and chairs should leave a clear path to the sleeping area, while night lights and string lights provide safer lighting after bedtime.
Frequently asked questions
- What do I need for a sleepover party?
- Prepare one sleeping place per guest, with an air mattress or bed, fitted sheet, sleeping bag or blanket, and cushion. You will also need food, drinks, plates, bowls, cups, mugs, cutlery, serving items, activities and basic lighting.
- How many sleeping bags do I need for a sleepover?
- Plan one sleeping bag per guest who will sleep at your home. Add at least one spare blanket and one extra cushion, because guests may arrive without bedding or find the room colder than expected.
- How much food and drink should I buy for a sleepover?
- For drinks, allow two to three per person during the first hour, then keep additional chilled drinks available for the rest of the evening and breakfast. Buy enough snack portions for one serving per guest for each planned snack round, plus a small extra supply.
- When should I buy supplies for a sleepover party?
- Buy non-perishable food, tableware, bedding and decorations two to three days beforehand. Chill drinks and buy perishable food on the day, and test the projector, speaker and extension cords at least 24 hours before guests arrive.
