Painting workshop shopping list
A painting workshop needs more than paint and canvases. You also need enough brushes, palettes, water cups, aprons and drying space for every participant, plus tables and chairs that support each workstation. Plan refreshments separately, including coffee, tea, cups and break snacks. This list helps you check quantities before shopping, so you do not discover missing materials when participants are already arriving.

Tips
- Buy one canvas, one apron and at least one water cup per participant, then add 10% extra for damaged or misplaced items.
- Plan three to four brushes per participant in mixed sizes. Include a few spare brushes because shared materials slow the workshop down.
- Provide one mixing palette for every participant or pair, depending on the teaching format. Have extra mixing bowls ready for colours used by several people.
- Allow one easel or stable work surface per participant and leave space for drying racks. Paintings need a safe place to dry before the room is cleared.
- For refreshments, prepare two cups per person if coffee, tea and cold drinks are served. Keep kettles, a coffee maker and extension cords away from wet painting areas.
Frequently asked questions
- How much painting material do I need per person for a workshop?
- Plan one canvas, one apron, one water cup and one palette per person. Allow three to four brushes per participant, plus about 10% spare materials for breakage, spills or late registrations.
- How many tables and chairs do I need for a painting workshop?
- Provide one chair and one usable workstation per participant, with enough table space for a canvas, palette and water cup. Add at least one separate table for registration, refreshments or shared materials.
- How many brushes should I buy for a painting class?
- Buy three to four brushes per participant in different sizes and shapes. For a group of 20, that means 60 to 80 brushes, plus a small reserve for replacements.
- What refreshments do I need for a painting workshop?
- For a short workshop, plan two drinks per person for the first hour and one more for each additional hour. Add one or two break snacks per person, and buy extra cups, plates and cutlery if the session includes catering.
