What you need for an origami workshop
An origami workshop needs more than paper and folding instructions. You will need enough tools for people to work at the same time, prepared examples, name badges, and a simple setup for coffee, tea, and snacks. Use one material kit per participant, then add shared supplies for demonstrations and replacements. Buy or collect the consumables at least one week before the workshop so missing items can still be replaced.

Tips
- Prepare one origami paper pack and one instruction card set per participant, plus supplies for 10% more people than registered. Extra paper prevents the workshop from stopping when a model is folded incorrectly.
- Provide one pair of scissors, ruler, pencil, eraser, glue stick, and a few paper clips for every two participants. Keep at least two spare sets at the registration desk.
- Print the participant list, name badges, and instructions two to three days beforehand. Bring a pen set and markers for last-minute names, table signs, or notes.
- Set out one sample model for every technique you demonstrate and keep additional examples in storage boxes. Participants understand the steps faster when they can compare their work with a finished model.
- For coffee, tea, and snacks, plan two drinks per person for the first hour and one drink per hour after that. Check that you have enough cups, glasses, plates, spoons, serving trays, and extension cords before setup day.
Frequently asked questions
- How much origami paper do I need per person?
- Plan for at least 10 to 15 sheets per participant for a standard workshop. Add another 10% for practice folds, mistakes, and late registrations.
- How many scissors are needed for an origami workshop?
- Provide one pair of scissors for every two participants, with at least two spare pairs. If the workshop includes cutting-heavy models, use one pair per person instead.
- When should I buy the origami workshop supplies?
- Order paper, tools, instruction cards, and other workshop materials at least one week before the event. Pack and check the kits two to three days beforehand so shortages can still be fixed.
- How many cups and plates do I need for the workshop?
- Count one cup, glass, and plate per person, then add 10% for replacements and helpers. For a three-hour workshop, plan two drinks per person in the first hour and one per hour afterward.
