What to bring to a mountain biking camp
A mountain biking camp needs more than bikes and tents. You need protective gear for every rider, enough water for each route, and repair equipment for punctures or loose parts. Camping supplies should cover sleeping, lighting and weather protection, while tables and cooking equipment keep the base camp workable. Use this list to shop early, then check quantities against the number of riders, nights and planned groups.

Tips
- Allow one properly fitting helmet, reflective vest and water bottle per rider, plus at least two spare bottles for the group. Pack gloves for every participant rather than relying on shared equipment.
- Bring at least one spare inner tube per five riders, along with tire levers, pumps and multi-tools. Check bike compatibility before the camp; replacement parts bought on the day may not fit.
- For each tent, count sleeping mats and sleeping bags separately, then add one spare mat and sleeping bag for every 10 campers. Pack tent lights and extra batteries before leaving for the campsite.
- Keep chilled food in the correct storage until it reaches camp. Plan roughly 2β3 litres of drinking water per rider per riding day, increasing that amount in hot weather or on long routes.
- Mark route turns before the first ride using arrows and ribbon, and keep cones available at camp for skills practice. Pack cable ties as quick fixes for loose signs, bags and minor equipment problems.
Frequently asked questions
- How many water bottles do I need for a mountain biking camp?
- Plan one bottle per rider for each ride, with enough spare bottles to replace lost or damaged ones. As a baseline, provide 2β3 litres of drinking water per rider per riding day, more in hot weather.
- How many spare inner tubes should I pack for a bike camp?
- Pack at least one spare inner tube for every five riders, and bring more if the routes are rocky or remote. Add tire levers, pumps and multi-tools so the tubes can actually be fitted on the trail.
- What camping gear does each participant need?
- Each camper needs a tent space, sleeping mat, sleeping bag and a light source. Count one complete sleeping setup per person, then add at least one spare setup for every 10 campers.
- When should I buy and check the mountain biking camp supplies?
- Buy food, spare parts and route-marking materials at least 3β7 days before camp. Check bikes, helmets, pumps and repair tools 1β2 days before departure, and chill perishable food as close to transport time as possible.
