What to buy for a golf match

A golf match needs more than clubs and golf balls. You also need enough tees, scorecards and pencils for every player, plus drinks, coffee, food and serving equipment for the time before and after the round. Plan the registration desk, scoreboard and prize table before shopping so you do not discover missing supplies on the first tee. This checklist covers the practical items to buy or bring for a smooth match day.

Tips

  • Allow at least one scorecard and one pencil per player, plus 10% extra for lost or damaged items. Keep the spare pencils at the registration desk.
  • Buy or bring more golf balls than the exact player count suggests: two sleeves per player is a useful starting point for a full round, with extra balls for beginners or difficult conditions.
  • Plan drinks for the whole day, not just the first tee. For an event lasting several hours, allow roughly 1.5 to 2 litres of non-alcoholic drinks per person, then add coffee, tea and any other drinks you are serving.
  • Order prizes early enough for engraving, delivery and checking. A two-week buffer gives you time to correct names or replace an item before the match.
  • Do not forget the serving basics when ordering catering: plates, cups, glasses, cutlery, serving utensils, napkins and coolers. Count tableware for every guest and add 10% spare capacity.
