What to Buy for a Glamping Weekend

A glamping weekend needs more than food and sleeping gear. You’ll be serving meals outdoors, keeping drinks cold, storing luggage and preparing for changing weather. This shopping list covers the practical items behind those jobs, from camping tables and dinnerware to cooking equipment, water jugs and waste bins. Check your accommodation first: some glamping sites provide stoves, pans, chairs or lighting, while others expect you to bring everything.

Tips

  • Plan tableware for every guest, plus at least 10% extra for breakage, misplaced items or delayed washing. Count dinner plates, breakfast plates, bowls, glasses, mugs, knives, forks and spoons separately.
  • For a weekend with shared cooking, allow one barbecue or cooking stove for each main cooking station. Add barbecue tongs, pans, cutting boards, chef’s knives, serving platters and covered serving bowls so food can move from preparation to the table safely.
  • Buy or pack two water jugs for each serving area and enough thermos flasks for the first morning. Hot drinks are easy to overlook when the group wakes at different times and the kitchen is not ready yet.
  • Give luggage a defined place before guests arrive. Luggage crates, clothing racks and a baggage area prevent bags from spreading into sleeping and dining spaces; allow roughly one crate or equivalent floor space per two guests.
  • Prepare for wet ground and changing weather with picnic blankets, covered serving dishes and waste bins. Put bins near the dining area and cooking station, and keep non-perishable groceries separate from chilled food until you reach the accommodation.

Frequently asked questions

How much food should I buy for a glamping weekend?
Plan three main meals per full day, plus breakfast and snacks. Use the confirmed guest list and dietary requirements, then add about 10% extra portions for seconds and unexpected arrivals.
How many glasses and plates do I need for glamping?
Allow one dinner plate, one breakfast plate, one bowl, one drinking glass and one mug per guest, plus 10% spare. If wine is part of the plan, count wine glasses separately rather than assuming drinking glasses will cover both.
When should I do the shopping for a glamping weekend?
Buy non-perishable groceries and disposable supplies 2–3 days before departure. Purchase chilled food on the day before or morning of arrival, and keep it refrigerated until you can store it at the accommodation.
What cooking equipment do I need for a glamping weekend?
At minimum, plan a barbecue or cooking stove, pans, chef’s knives, cutting boards, mixing bowls, serving platters, covered serving bowls, aluminium trays and barbecue tongs. Confirm what the accommodation supplies at least 7 days before the weekend.
