Tips

Plan one hand lens, field notebook and sample bag per participant if everyone will examine and collect samples. Add a few spare sets for damaged or forgotten equipment.
Match geological hammers and safety goggles to the number of people using them at each stop, rather than handing them out automatically. Keep goggles available whenever hammers are in use.
Prepare route arrows and stop materials before participants arrive. Pack maps and stop cards in participant folders, and bring extra arrows in case signs are moved or lost.
