Dog Show Shopping List

A dog show needs more than ribbons and a ring. You need a clear registration point, safe ring equipment, drinking water, waste supplies and enough seating for judges and visitors. Plan the practical items around the number of dogs, competition rings and expected spectators. This list helps you buy or bring the equipment that is easy to overlook, especially power supplies, shade, signage and dog-care basics.

Tips

  • Set up one folding table and at least two chairs for registration, then bring a laptop, printer and enough paper to print the participant list, inspection schedule and last-minute updates on site.
  • For each active ring, prepare ring mats, poles, cones and a measuring tape. Keep spare ribbon and dog towels nearby so a small equipment problem does not delay judging.
  • Place water tubs and drinking water barrels at the venue before dogs arrive. Add dog water bottles for handlers who move between rings, and check the water supply again after the first judging round.
  • Provide waste bag dispensers and dog waste pickers at every main route or ring entrance. One dispenser per busy entrance is a practical starting point, with extra bags ready for the full day.
  • Do not leave power planning until setup morning: count the laptop, printer, sound system, microphones and other equipment, then bring enough extension cords and power strips to reach each station safely.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need for a dog show registration desk?
Use one folding table and at least two chairs, plus a laptop, printer, paper, name badges and the participant list. Have the desk ready at least 60 minutes before the first inspection so late changes can be processed.
How much water should I bring to a dog show?
Bring enough drinking water for every dog throughout the event, with water tubs positioned near the rings and larger drinking water barrels for refilling. Check the supply at least twice during the day, because warm weather and waiting dogs increase consumption.
What equipment is needed for a dog show ring?
Each ring needs ring mats, ring poles, cones, lanes for ring use and a measuring tape for dogs. Set out the ring at least 45 minutes before judging and keep spare ribbon and dog towels close by.
When should I order dog show ribbons and prizes?
Order rosettes and prizes as soon as registrations close and the competition classes are confirmed. Allow at least 2 weeks for delivery, then check the quantities and prepare prize certificates before event day.
