What you need for a diving clinic
A diving clinic needs more than suits, masks and cylinders. Plan equipment by participant and keep spare gear available for damaged or poorly fitting items. You also need clearly marked safety equipment, a dry registration area, changing facilities and simple catering that can be served without delaying the diving groups. Confirm what the dive school and rental provider supply before buying anything, especially cylinders, breathing apparatus, weights and compressors.

Tips
- Count one mask, snorkel, pair of fins and correctly fitted suit per participant, then arrange spare masks and fins before the clinic. A small sizing problem can otherwise hold up an entire diving group.
- Keep one complete set of surface and rescue equipment at the waterfront: diving flags, surface marker buoys, life rings, throw lines and thermal blankets. Place it where instructors can reach it without leaving the group.
- Prepare a dry registration point with a folding table, chairs, pens and supply bins. Pack printed emergency numbers, route details and parking information in a waterproof folder at least one day before the event.
- Do not leave changing arrangements until the morning itself. Clothes racks, party tents and tables should be ready before participants arrive, with separate bins for dry clothing and wet equipment.
- Buy shelf-stable food and drinks for the final participant count, plus a small buffer of around 10%. Keep water available throughout the clinic and serve food between diving groups rather than during equipment checks.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for a diving clinic?
- For each participant, plan a diving suit, mask, snorkel, fins, flotation vest, cylinder, breathing apparatus, pressure gauge, lead belt or blocks and, where required, a dive computer. Confirm the exact package with the dive school at least 7 days before the clinic.
- How many spare diving items should I have?
- Keep at least 1 spare mask and 1 spare pair of fins for every 10 participants, rounded up. Add extra gloves, shoes and glasses according to the sizes in your final participant list, which should be checked 3 to 5 days beforehand.
- What safety equipment is needed at the dive site?
- Have diving flags, surface marker buoys, a life ring, throw lines and thermal blankets available at the waterfront. Put the rescue equipment in position before opening the site, and check it again immediately before the first group enters the water.
- When should I buy food and drinks for a diving clinic?
- Do the main shopping 1 to 2 days before the clinic, after registrations and dietary requirements are finalized. Buy fresh items no earlier than the day before, and calculate drinks and catering for the confirmed participant count plus about 10%.
