What you need for a diving championship
A diving championship needs more than pool access and competition entries. You need clearly marked equipment, reliable timing and scoring tools, enough power and charging capacity, and supplies that keep wet areas safe. This shopping list covers the practical items for the jury table, officials, competitors, spectators and refreshments. Use your confirmed participant count to scale consumables, then check every technical item before opening the venue.

Tips
- Plan one bib number and one swim cap for each competitor, plus at least 10% spare bib numbers for replacements, late changes or damaged prints. Keep the prepared start list and competition sheets together at the jury table.
- Provide one stopwatch for each active timekeeper and at least two referee whistles. Test every stopwatch before the first round and keep spare batteries or charged replacements available.
- Use non-slip mats at access points and place wet floor signs wherever water may collect. Barrier tape and cones should be ready before competitors and spectators enter the competition area.
- Allow one power strip and one extension cord for each separate equipment station, then add at least two spare power connections. Charge laptops, tablets, wireless microphones and power banks before opening.
- For refreshments, plan two to three drinks per person for the first hour, then one drink per person for every additional hour. Add snacks for the full event duration and keep dietary requirements with the grocery order.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for a diving championship?
- Plan bib numbers, swim caps, referee whistles, stopwatches, scoreboards, spare towels, non-slip mats, barrier tape, cones and wet floor signs. You will also need timing and scoring technology, communication equipment, power supplies and refreshments.
- How many bib numbers should I buy for a diving competition?
- Buy one bib number per registered competitor and add at least 10% extra. For 80 competitors, prepare 88 bib numbers so you can handle replacements and last-minute changes.
- How many drinks do I need for a diving championship?
- Budget two to three drinks per person for the first hour and one additional drink per person for each hour after that. For 100 people at a three-hour event, this means about 400 to 500 drinks, depending on weather and spectator numbers.
- When should I check the equipment for a diving championship?
- Check the competition, safety and technical equipment at least one day before the event. Test timing, scoring, microphones, speakers, laptops, tablets and charging points again during venue setup, before participants arrive.
