Cycling holiday shopping list
A cycling holiday needs more than bikes and helmets. Plan supplies for the route, overnight stops, luggage handling and the time riders spend between meals. Pack water, food, repair equipment and visibility gear where the group can reach them quickly, then separate personal luggage from shared supplies. This list also covers items people often remember too late, such as spare inner tubes, charging cables, luggage tags and emergency lighting.

Tips
- Allow at least 2 litres of drinking water per rider for a full riding day, then add extra water jugs at the start and overnight stops. Pack more if the route has long stretches without shops.
- Bring at least 1 spare inner tube per bicycle, plus one tire repair kit and pump for every small riding group. Check that the tubes match the wheel sizes before departure.
- Prepare one helmet and one lock per rider, and carry bicycle light sets and reflective vests even when the forecast promises daylight. A late arrival, detour or mechanical delay can quickly change the conditions.
- Label every bag before luggage collection and pack luggage nets, ratchet straps and a luggage cart where needed. Keep route maps, emergency contacts and a charged mobile phone in the support bag rather than in checked luggage.
- Set aside a first aid kit, emergency blankets, flashlights, power banks and charging cable sets before packing food and drinks. Charge phones and power banks overnight, and take enough cables for the groupβs different devices.
Frequently asked questions
- What should I pack for a cycling holiday?
- Pack cycling clothes, a helmet, lock, water, personal medication and overnight clothing for each day. For the group, take repair tools, spare inner tubes, lights, first aid supplies, route maps and charging equipment.
- How much water do I need for a cycling holiday?
- Plan for about 2 litres per rider for a full riding day, with more for hot weather or routes without regular refill points. Add shared water jugs at the start and at overnight stops.
- How many spare inner tubes should I bring on a bike trip?
- Take at least 1 spare inner tube for every bicycle, plus tire repair kits and pumps for the group. Check sizes and valve types at least 1 week before departure so replacements fit.
- When should I buy food and drinks for a cycling holiday?
- Buy non-perishable food, repair supplies and safety equipment at least 3 days before departure. Chill drinks and buy fresh items within 24 hours, after confirming dietary requirements and meal numbers.
