Cricket tournament checklist

A cricket tournament needs more than confirmed teams and a pitch. You also need a workable competition format, a printed match schedule, tested equipment, clear player information and enough food and drinks for the full day. This checklist takes you from choosing the date and venue through registration, shopping and the final grounds inspection. Use it to spot the details that are often left until the last minute, such as spare balls, score sheets, dietary requirements and route information.

Tips

  • Set the competition format before drawing up the fixtures. Decide how many matches each team will play, how long games will last and when the final can start, then use those decisions to build a realistic schedule.
  • Close registration early enough to confirm teams and players. Send the participant list, rules, match schedule, route and parking details at least 3 days before the tournament.
  • Count catering by player and match duration, not just by invitation total. Record dietary requirements during registration, then calculate snacks and drinks for the entire playing period plus setup and breaks.
  • Test every piece of cricket equipment before it leaves storage. Check bats, wickets, helmets, protective gear, scoreboards and whistles, and pack spare balls and marking materials separately so they are easy to find.
  • Plan the venue setup around the first arrival time. Bring the registration table, seating, tents, drinking water and cups before players arrive, and inspect the grounds on the day for hazards, wet areas and clear boundary markings.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I organise a cricket tournament?
Start planning at least 6 weeks before the tournament. Set the date and venue first, then allow time for registrations, team confirmation, the fixture schedule, equipment checks and catering.
When should cricket tournament registration close?
Close registration about 10 to 14 days before the event. That gives you enough time to confirm teams, collect dietary requirements, write the schedule and send final participant information.
How many spare cricket balls do I need for a tournament?
Pack at least 2 spare balls for each active match, plus additional balls if the format uses several pitches. Check them before the event and keep them in a separate ball bucket or clearly labelled kit bag.
What should I send cricket tournament players before the event?
Send the rules, match schedule, participant list, arrival time, venue address, route and parking information at least 3 days beforehand. Include any equipment or protective gear players must bring themselves.
