Children’s camp shopping list
A children’s camp needs more than food and outdoor games. Plan supplies for registration, group activities, meals, shade, lighting and safe movement around the site. As a starting point, allow one name badge and consent record per child, plus 10–15% extra disposable or shared supplies where possible. The list below covers the practical items to buy, pack or borrow before the camp begins.

Tips
- Plan one reusable cup, plate and cutlery set per child, then add at least 10% extra for dropped or misplaced items. Bring serving platters, serving spoons and a pitcher so food and drinks do not stay in their original containers.
- Allow two to three drinks per child for the first camp activity block, and keep chilled drinks in coolers until serving. Pack extra water separately rather than relying only on cups filled at the start.
- Prepare one name badge and marker for every participant, with at least 10 spare badges for replacements or late registrations. Keep these at the reception table with the attendance list and emergency contact information.
- Divide game equipment by participant group before children arrive. A practical starting point is one cone for each marked game zone, plus enough soft balls, hoops or skipping ropes for small groups to use without long waits.
- Check lighting before the forecast gets dark: provide at least one flashlight for each supervising adult and place LED lamps near tables, paths and the reception area. Pack power banks and extension cords before setup day, since they are easy to overlook.
Frequently asked questions
- How many plates, cups and cutlery sets do I need for a children’s camp?
- Plan one reusable plate, cup and cutlery set per child and supervising adult for each meal. Add 10% extra, so a camp with 30 children and 6 adults should have at least 40 of each item.
- How much food and drink should I buy for children’s camp?
- For drinks, allow two to three servings per child during the first activity block, then adjust for the full schedule and weather. Buy food according to the confirmed registrations and dietary requirements, with about 10% extra portions for changes or late arrivals.
- What equipment do I need for outdoor children’s camp games?
- Pack cones, hoops, soft balls, skipping ropes, ribbons, treasure maps and water guns according to the number of groups. Prepare one equipment set per group where possible and sort everything before participants arrive to avoid delays.
- How many name badges and emergency supplies should I prepare?
- Prepare one name badge per registered child and adult, plus at least 10 spare badges. Check the first aid kit at least one day before camp and keep flashlights, emergency contacts and consent forms at the reception point.
