What to buy and bring for a Bridge Walk
A Bridge Walk needs more than participant bibs and finish medals. You also need clearly marked kilometres, a reliable registration setup, drinking supplies, safety equipment and a way to manage bags and waste. This checklist helps you prepare the physical items before volunteers arrive and the route is opened. Use your final participant count to adjust quantities, then collect groceries and event materials early enough to fix missing or damaged items.

Tips
- Order one bib number and one bib strap per participant, plus at least 5% extra for late registrations, printing errors or replacements. Sort the bibs before event day so registration staff are not searching through a box.
- Plan disposable cups and drinks for every aid station, not only the finish. For a two-hour walk, allow roughly 500–750 ml of water per participant, then add extra for warm weather and volunteer use.
- Mark the route with arrows at every turn and place kilometre markers where walkers can easily see them. Prepare a spare set of signs and carry tape or ties, because signs are often moved or removed before the first walkers arrive.
- Keep registration, clothing storage and the finish area separate. Provide labelled bag storage, storage crates and clothes racks, and place waste bins at registration, aid stations and the finish rather than relying on one central bin.
- Test the sound and timing equipment at least one day before the walk. Check the microphone, mixer, speakers, extension cords and power strips together, and keep a backup stopwatch available if the timing system fails.
Frequently asked questions
- How many bib numbers do I need for a Bridge Walk?
- Prepare one bib number and one race bib strap for each registered walker, plus 5% extra. For 200 participants, that means at least 210 bibs and straps.
- How much water should I buy for a Bridge Walk?
- For a walk lasting about two hours, plan on 500–750 ml per participant, distributed between aid stations and the finish. For 200 participants, buy at least 100–150 litres, with more in warm weather.
- When should I prepare Bridge Walk route signs?
- Sort and check route arrows and kilometre markers at least 2–3 days before the event. Pack them by route section, then do a final route check on the day before or early on event morning.
- How many disposable cups are needed for a Bridge Walk?
- Allow 2–3 cups per participant for water stations, plus 10% extra for volunteers and spills. For 200 walkers, prepare around 440–660 cups.
