What you need for a BHV training day

A BHV training day needs more than manuals and a presentation. Participants must be able to take notes, complete knowledge tests and practise with equipment such as an AED, CPR dummy and first aid kit. Plan refreshments and tableware for the full session, and check every technical item before the instructor arrives. Use this list to prepare the room, registration desk and practice stations without last-minute shopping.

Tips

  • Prepare one BHV manual, notepad, ballpoint pen and name badge per participant, plus a few spare sets for late registrations or damaged materials.
  • Test the laptop, projector, projection screen, extension cords and power strips before the training starts; a missing cable can delay the theory session by 15–30 minutes.
  • Set up the practice stations before participants arrive, including the practice AED, CPR dummy, practice first aid kit, training stretcher and practice fire extinguisher.
  • Bring enough knowledge tests and attendance forms for every participant, with at least 2–3 spare copies so registration and assessment do not stop when numbers change.
  • For a full-day session, allow 2–3 drinks per person during the first hour and about 1 drink per hour afterwards; add mugs, glasses and plates before chilling the drinks.

Frequently asked questions

What equipment do I need for BHV training?
Plan for a practice AED, CPR dummy, practice first aid kit, training stretcher, practice fire extinguisher, fire blanket and safety goggles. Also prepare the presentation equipment and a timer before the session begins.
How many BHV manuals and notepads do I need?
Use one manual and one notepad per registered participant, plus 2–3 spare sets. This covers late additions, damaged materials and anyone who forgets to bring their own stationery.
How much coffee and water do I need for a BHV training day?
Allow 2–3 drinks per person during the first hour and roughly 1 drink per person per hour after that. Add extra water for practical exercises and prepare mugs and glasses before participants arrive.
When should I set up the BHV training room?
Finish the room, registration desk and practice stations at least 30 minutes before arrival. Test the projector and power connections during setup, not when the theory session is due to start.
